Maybe I shouldn’t discourage students from going into journalism

Having been an intern in Washington DC during Watergate, I have been dismayed lately to hear that stories were going unreported because news organizations are laying off people. I have read a lot of the articles about the economic model for journalism changing, etc, blah, etc, and felt a little guilty when students of mine announce they want to major in journalism. A child of new journalism itself, The Huffington Post is putting effort out there to preserve investigative reporting. I hope it succeeds. It is certainly an experiment worth watching.
